Partnership Intermediary Agreements (PIAs)
The Griffiss Institute (GI) was established in 2002, by the State of New York, as an independent 501(c)(3) entity governed by a Board of Directors. The primary role of the GI is to advocate and facilitate the co-operation of private industry, academia, and the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate (AFRL/RI), in developing solutions to critical cyber security problems. Another prime role is to build upon technologies under development at the AFRL/RI to further strengthen our nation’s security.

Established in 2017 by the SECAF and reporting to the Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force, AFWERX is a catalyst for agile Air Force engagement across industry, academia, and non-traditional contributors to create transformative opportunities and foster an Air Force culture of innovation.
SOFWERX was created under a Partnership Intermediary Agreement between Doolittle Institute and the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). Located in Tampa, FL, SOFWERX has a very dynamic environment designed to create a high rate of return on collision for all participants. Through the use of our growing ecosystem, promotion of divergent thought, and neutral facilitation, our goal is to bring the right minds together to solve challenging problems.
Defensewerx is a neutral facilitator and trusted counselor, connecting a national network of individuals, businesses, educators and government organizations to enable creative and integrated solutions for our DoD customers.
MilTech is a Department of Defense Technology Transition Partnership Intermediary and operates via Partnership Intermediary Agreement between Montana State University and the Air Force Research Lab at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. The mission of MilTech is to accelerate the transition of new technology to the U.S. Warfighter. Since 2004 MilTech has performed over 150 technology acceleration and transition projects for every military service and joint and special commands.
FirstLink helps the Department of Defense connect with private sector companies and entrepreneurs to advance technologies for our nation’s First Responders. As the nation’s first National Center of Excellence for First Responder Technologies, our services are provided through a partnership with the United States Department of Defense Office of Technology Transition and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).
